What Causes Knee Pain

Knee pain is a common ailment that can affect people of all ages. It can range from a mild annoyance to a debilitating condition that interferes with daily life. There are many potential causes of knee pain, including:

  • Injuries: Sprains, strains, tears, and fractures can all cause knee pain. These injuries can occur from sudden trauma, such as a fall or sports injury, or from overuse, such as repetitive stress on the knee joint.

  • Arthritis: Arthritis is a degenerative condition that causes inflammation and pain in the joints. There are several types of arthritis that can affect the knee, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and psoriatic arthritis.

  • Overuse: Overuse of the knee joint can lead to inflammation and pain. This is often seen in athletes or people who perform repetitive activities that put stress on the knees.

  • Other medical conditions: Certain medical conditions, such as gout, bursitis, and tendonitis, can also cause knee pain.

Osteopathic treatment aims to restore mobility and alignment in the body, creating an optimal environment for the body to heal. Specific strengthening/stretching exercises are also prescribed when necessary, and ergonomic and lifestyle factors are addressed.
